Level 2 Charging

The charger is a commodity. The install is not.

Most Level 2 chargers solve the same problem. The difference is whether the circuit, panel capacity, permit and final test are handled correctly.

Any Level 2 charger can add roughly 25 to 40 miles of range per hour. What actually determines how well your charging setup works, and how safely, is the electrical work behind it: panel capacity, circuit sizing, wire run and a passed inspection.

We treat the hardware decision and the electrical decision as two separate conversations, and we will tell you honestly when a cheaper charger is the right call and when it is not.

Hardware Guidance

Which charger is right for you

If you have not bought a charger yet, tell us what you drive and what matters most: app features, cost, or a specific brand match. We will point you at the unit that fits before we ever talk about the install itself.

Tesla Wall Connector

The standard for Tesla owners, with a magnetic-latch connector and app-based scheduling. Increasingly usable with other EVs through adapters as charging standards converge.

Generac

A natural fit if you already have or are considering a Generac generator or battery - one brand, one app, for a home's power backup and charging setup.

ChargePoint

Strong app ecosystem and scheduling features, a common choice for households that want detailed usage tracking or may eventually add a second charger.

Emporia

A budget-conscious Level 2 option with solid app control, popular with homeowners who want reliable charging without paying for features they will not use.

We are a Tesla Certified Installer, and every installation is hardwired on a dedicated 240V circuit - the cleanest, safest connection and what manufacturers recommend for higher-amperage units. New Jersey utilities no longer permit plug-in NEMA outlet installs for EV chargers.

Licensed Installation

What a licensed EV charger installation covers

This is the part that is easy to get wrong and expensive to fix later. A licensed installation makes the charger a safe, permitted electrical upgrade instead of just another device mounted on the wall.

  • Panel and circuit assessment. We confirm your panel has capacity, or price the fix if it does not, before you commit to anything.
  • Dedicated 240V circuit. Sized to the charger and the car, never a generic one-size breaker.
  • Township permit and inspection. Filed, scheduled and passed - included in the price.
  • First charge test. We confirm your car is charging correctly before we leave.

Home Value

A charger is also a home value question

A permitted, professionally installed EV charger is documented electrical work, not just a convenience upgrade.

A permitted, professionally installed EV charger is a documented electrical upgrade - the kind that shows up favorably in a home inspection rather than raising questions about who did the wiring. As EV ownership grows across New Jersey, a working Level 2 charger is increasingly a feature buyers ask about. An unpermitted charger installed by a handyman or a previous owner can do the opposite: it is one of the more common issues that surfaces during a home inspection, and it can hold up a sale until it is corrected.

EV Charger Installation FAQs

Which EV charger brand should I buy?

The right charger depends on your car, your panel, and whether you want app features like scheduling and energy monitoring. We install Tesla, Generac, ChargePoint, Emporia and most major Level 2 chargers - if you have not bought hardware yet, we will recommend a unit that matches your car and your electrical setup rather than sell you whatever is easiest to install.

Should I get a hardwired charger or a plug-in unit?

New Jersey utilities no longer permit plug-in EV charger installations on NEMA outlets, so new home installations are hardwired. That is good news for the install quality: a hardwired charger is a cleaner setup with one less connection point, and it is what most manufacturers recommend for their higher-amperage units. We handle the dedicated circuit, permit and inspection either way.

Can I install a home EV charger myself in New Jersey?

A Level 2 charger runs on a dedicated 240V circuit, and that circuit work requires a licensed electrician and a township permit in NJ - it is not a DIY project the way a plug-in dryer outlet might be. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of every installation.

Will my charger work with my next electric vehicle?

Most Level 2 chargers use a standard connector or come with an adapter, so a properly installed charger typically outlasts any one car. We size the circuit and charger to handle a reasonable range of vehicles, not just the one in your driveway today.

Does the charger need Wi-Fi to work?

No - the charger will deliver power over the dedicated circuit with or without a network connection. Wi-Fi only unlocks extras like scheduling, usage tracking and remote start through the manufacturer app.

What if my electrical panel does not have room for a new circuit?

This comes up often and it is not a dead end. As licensed electricians, load management devices, subpanels and full panel upgrades are standard work for us - we will price the options honestly at the assessment so you can choose what makes sense for your home.

How much does a home EV charger installation cost?

Cost depends on the charger you choose, the length of the circuit run from your panel, and whether your panel has room for the new load without an upgrade. There is no flat rate that applies to every driveway. We give you an exact written price at the free assessment, and $0 down financing is available through Synchrony for qualified buyers.

Does a professionally installed charger affect my home insurance or resale?

A permitted, inspected EV charger installation is documented electrical work, which is generally viewed favorably by both insurers and home inspectors - unlike an unpermitted DIY 240V circuit, which can raise questions at resale or complicate a claim. We give you the permit paperwork and passed inspection record to keep on file.
